Children's Dyslexia Center

Our mission is to raise awareness for students with Dyslexia and empower them with hope and confidence through the unique, research-based tutoring program. Students meet with a highly qualified tutor twice a week in a 1-on-1 setting to build success and understanding of printed language. All tutoring is provided through scholarships awarded to the student so no family is charged a fee allowing this specialized program to be offered to anyone struggling with dyslexia regardless of economic status.

With 20-25% of the population struggling with dyslexia, most undiagnosed, it is essential that we reach these students and show them they can overcome any obstacle. The Children’s Dyslexia Center is involved in changing lives and opening opportunities to students through the power of reading.

The Diaper Alliance

The Diaper Alliance (TDA) was formed in 2010 because many parents cannot afford the diapers needed to keep their babies clean, dry, and healthy. Existing federal and state programs, such as WIC and DHS (Bridge Cards), do not provide or permit their resources to be used to purchase diapers, and families were without any source for these needed items.  Since its establishment, TDA continued to expand and currently provides diapers to 37 partner agencies within the Great Lakes Bay Region, including Midland, Saginaw, Bay, and Clare counties, at a rate of over 35,000 diapers per month. The diapers are provided free of charge to registered clients of the partner agency.  In September 2015, The Diaper Alliance celebrated distribution of one-million diapers to families in need.

TDA is excited to participate in the 3rd season of SwingShift and the Stars as a returning charity!  The Diaper Alliance is eager to gain financial support and awareness, helping lead to long-term sustainability.  Their success will provide continued hope for families, that their babies can be clean, dry and healthy!

Midland Christian School

Midland Christian School was founded in 1960 to serve the Great Lakes Bay Region. The school offers a rigorous curriculum for Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade students as well as preschool programs for 3, 4 and 5 year olds. Midland Christian School seeks to individually challenge children at all levels and to teach them how to learn. We believe that the most effective way to create both an academically rigorous and Christ-centered school is through the method known as the classical Christian approach to education. All subjects are taught as part of an integrated whole with Scripture at the center as students are encouraged to become “thinking Christians” and to develop a solid biblical worldview.Classical education provides the tools of learning which incorporate the Trivium’s stages of grammar, logic and rhetoric in traditional subjects as well as Latin, logic, art, music and physical education. This well-rounded approach to learning is part of what makes a Midland Christian School education truly extraordinary.

In an effort to serve as many families as possible, Midland Christian School offers scholarships to students unable to afford full tuition.  During the 2015-2016 school year, 26 children received scholarships, giving them the benefit of a Midland Christian education.  Our goal through participation in SwingShift and the Stars is to increase these scholarships to serve more students and their families.

Power of Dad

The mission of The Power of Dad Organization is to encourage, educate and enhance the relationship between fathers and their children. Our vision is to reduce fatherlessness and its harmful impact on children. We believe that a child’s biological father, if he is in his right mind, is the greatest mentor that child can have. We also believe that in the absence of that biological father that there are willing, capable and committed men who will fill the gap and love a fatherless generation.

Royal Family Kids

Great Lakes Bay Royal Family KIDS is a one week residential camp whose primary focus is to instill hope and love to abused and neglected children, ages 7-11 that have been placed in foster care. Through partnership with local churches, area businesses and individuals with a heart for these children, we are able to provide this week of “Royal Treatment” at no cost to families/caregivers of the camper. In 2014 we were also able to launch the Royal KIDS Club & Mentorship program, allowing us to have an even greater impact by providing long term relationships with our kids during the months following camp. We are a 100% volunteer run organization and all donations go directly to the programs we provide for the kids.
