Elissa Olson - Star 2016

Elissa  received her Bachelor of Arts degree graduating Magna Cum Laude from Saginaw Valley State University in 2013. For ten years prior to college, she worked for a non-profit providing relief and development. She built houses in Mexico, taught English in Thailand, assisted displaced Karen refugees fleeing ethnic cleansing in Myanmar; in addition to that she did relief work in Nepal and the Philippines.

Elissa currently works for a non-profit ABC—Greater Michigan Chapter as the Director of Membership Services. This organization is committed to advocacy, business development and skilled trades training in the Great Lakes Bay Region and beyond.

In her free time, Elissa enjoys running. She recently ran the Fargo half marathon and is a mentor for Midland’s own Girls on the Run 5k as a running buddy. She resides in Midland with her ten year old daughter, Zoe. Being born and raised in North Midland, where her parents still reside, she found it rewarding when she spent two years volunteering at the North Midland Family Center. Elissa is excited to participate in SwingShift and the Stars helping bring funds and awareness to the Children’s Dyslexia Center.

Mike McLain - Instructor 2015 & '16

Mike recently moved to Bay City with his wife Daphne when he started his new career with Michigan Sugar Co. He is truly enjoying all that his new home town has to offer and is proud to be a silent partner with his wife as she realizes her life long dream to have her own dance studio. Mike had such a fulfilling experience participating at last seasons’ SwingShift and the Stars charity event that he was thrilled to partake again in this season for three great charities.

Scot Johnson - Star 2016

Scot considers himself a Mid-Michigan man despite the fact that he was born and raised in California. Scot arrived in Mid-Michigan in 1996 and has been working in the local media ever since. A true sports fan, Scot pioneered the first Friday Night High school sports shows in the area and has made high school and local sports his passion.

Through his 30 plus year broadcasting career Scot has done everything. Sports play-by-play, on location radio and TV shows, news anchoring, AD sales and he has even sold popcorn during half-time. Scot enjoys the Michigan sports scene, watching the Wings win Stanley Cups, Pistons taking home NBA championship trophies and the National Titles won by the UM Football and MSU basketball teams.

Attending concerts and listening to live music are Scot’s passion when he’s not checking in on a score. It doesn’t take much for him to get onto the dance floor. He’s ready to “shake a Leg” and “cut up a rug” at this season’s Swing Shift with the Star’s event this spring.   Scot will proudly representing The Diaper Alliance and its mission to provide support for low income families.

When Scot is not trying to sneak into a game…you’ll catch him at the beach with his wife Merrie and his two sons Andrew and Matthew.

Daphne McLain - Instructor & Team Choreographer 2014-'16

Daphne is the Owner/Principal of Bay City Ballroom Dance Studio, the newest addition to downtown Bay City. After participating in last seasons’ SwingShift and the Stars as a choreographer, Daphne and her husband Mike were so inspired by the growth and sense of community in Bay City that they decided to pack up their lives in the metro Detroit area and make a new life for themselves here. Daphne’s passion for dance is fueled by the difference she can make in peoples’ lives through dance and watching her students go through personal growth; all because they took a step outside of their everyday to learn to dance. When SwingShift and the Stars asked her to participate this season she was ecstatic to again be able to be a part of the best charity event of the year as both a choreographer & instructor!

Jeremy Bockelman - Star 2015

Jeremy is a native of Saginaw, MI and attended Western Michigan University and Saginaw Valley State University graduating with a Bachelors and Masters Degree. He’s married Jenny Bellsky, and they currently live in Frankenmuth, MI with their daughter Katelyn. Jeremy believes that the classical model of education that the Midland Christian School offers to its students is extremely important in the coordination and maturation in student development, while teaching them to be creative thinkers and learners. Jeremy is willing to put his dance moves to the test and cut a rug to raise awareness for Midland Christian School commitment to classical education. Jeremy is currently the Director, Senior Business Adviser for the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center (MMTC) at Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU). Prior to this role, Jeremy spent years exploring the Strait of Antartica while moonlighting as a Calvin Klein underwear model. Ready for a good dance off, Jeremy has the moves in his corner to show the community that he is the next Michael Jackson.

Theresa Baker - Instructor 2014-'16

Theresa was raised and educated in the Great Lakes Bay Region and her children all share that experience. She has been married to Matthew for 25 years and has two daughters, Alexandrea and Jacquelyn, and a son Nathaniel. Theresa is a graduate of Dance Master’s of America Teacher’s Training School and has been teaching dance and gymnastics for more than 30 years. She can’t imagine doing anything else. She is currently the owner/director of EXPRESSIONS in Motion Dance and Gymnastics Studio in Bay City. Theresa believes SwingShift and the Stars is a wonderful opportunity to get involved in the community, meet new people and network with local businesses and charities. Theresa is very excited to be on-board again with SwingShift and the Stars for a 3rd season!

Brian Pruitt - Star 2016

Brian  is a former All American football player, the founder of Pruitt Motivational & The Power of Dad Non-Profit Organization. Over the past 20 years Brian has traveled across America and several other countries sharing a message that has healed the hearts of countless fathers and fatherless youth. Brian has appeared on many popular TV and radio shows. He is a well known Motivational Speaker and Author of multiple books. Brian was also awarded the John Maxwell Top 100 Leadership award for his work with fathers and fatherless youth. Brian and his wife Delicia have been married for 20 years and have four awesome children.

Megan MacIntosh - Instructor 2015 & '16

Megan  has danced for over 35 years and taught the art of dance for over 25. She holds a Bachelors of Arts degree from Michigan State University and a Masters degree from Walsh College.  Her dance career has included performing and competing as a youth at a variety of facilities/venues; owning, operating and directing two successful Dance Academies; running her own competitive dance team that have won countless awards; currently judging for the national “I LOVE DANCE” competition circuit out of Oregon, and today teaches for Frankenmuth Community Education and In Motion Dance Academy in Midland, Michigan.  Her specialties include, tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, hip hop and acro-dance. The highlight of her dance career was sharing the stage performing with Wierd Al Yankovic! She also works full time for Frankenmuth Insurance and has two beautiful dancing daughters: Hadley who is 14 and Aubrey who is 10.  Megan is very excited for her 2nd season with SwingShift and the Stars!

Lynn Schutter - Star 2016

Lynn is the Director of Community Relations and Strategic Planning at Mobile Medical Response and leads the company’s efforts in community relations, planning, web and social media, fundraising, patient satisfaction and employee engagement initiatives. She serves on a number of community committees including St. Mary’s of Michigan Cornette Ball, Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce Diplomat Team and HeartSafe Communities Saginaw Township Project Team. She is directly involved in the organization of the annual Pulse3 Foundation Shocks and Saves® Charity Hockey game and a variety of other community programs and events. She is passionate about creating awareness sudden cardiac arrest and works hard to promote the use of Hands Only CPR for citizen bystanders.

 

Lynn was raised Saginaw where graduated from the former Sts. Peter and Paul Area High School (Nouvel Catholic Cenral) and went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Records Administration from Ferris State University in 1988. Lynn resides in Freeland, has been married to Kraig Schutter for nine years and they share four terrific children ages 17-26.   Lynn enjoys boating and time away at their cottage in Cadillac.

Kathy Conklin - Star 2016

Kathy is a native of Saginaw, Michigan. She is a graduate of Saginaw Valley State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She is a proud mother of 4 children and 6 grandchildren. Kathy is the Executive Director of the Saginaw County Business & Education Partnership  and the Great Lakes Bay Manufacturers Association. Stepping out of her comfort zone is worth it to raise awareness of her organizations work in collaboration business, education, government and community leaders to help students be college and career ready, as well as create a skilled workforce.
