Traverse City has been home to Mel for the better part of the last 37 years. He has been happily married to Nancy, the love of his life for 37 years and they have been blessed with eight children and eight grandchildren. Mel and Nancy started dancing in the late 70’s and have taken many lessons, competed and have even taught from time to time.
Mel is employed as a Senior Geologist with the State of Michigan. After attending and participating in SwingShift and the Stars as an instructor, Mel is excited and honored to be a part of this fantastic, fun-filled local event to raise money for the many worthy charities as a judge. He looks forward to a great season!
Nancy, a native of Traverse City, has been married to her soulmate Mel for 38 years. They have eight beautiful children and nine grandchildren, and are expecting their tenth in March. Most of Nancy’s career has been mentoring families in need. Her 19 years as Family Services Manager with Habitat for Humanity-GTR helped over 90 families realize their dream of homeownership. She now works as a Family Health Educator for the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa & Chippewa Indians mentoring and teaching parenting skills to families with young Native children.
Nancy and her husband have been dancing, competing, and teaching on and off since the late 70’s. They recently started their business, “Night Moves Social Dance” in Traverse City and teach both Country and Social dances. “I love that we can use our dancing skills at SwingShift & The Stars to not only help all of the wonderful charities raise much needed funds, but also to bring the joy of dancing to those we meet through this awesome event!”
We are extremely grateful to the guest judges who help complete our distinguished panel!
