Putting the FUN back in fundraising!

SwingShift and the Stars Dance-Off for Charity was conceived in 2008 by Judy Harrison – President and Owner of High Impact Productions – who was compelled to create an event that would combine two of her passions: music and philanthropy.  Having attended many community fundraisers, she saw an opportunity to reintroduce some FUN into these events and make them an irresistible experience for the potential donor. By combining a healthy dose of good-natured competition (think Dancing With The Stars) with an affordable opportunity for charities to educate the community about their mission – and adding the music of Harrison’s Traverse City-based band – SwingShift and the Stars was born!

Each season begins with a media event in August, where participants are revealed to the community and each star is introduced to his/her instructor. Competitive events begin in September and continue monthly through December. These events are ticketed and open to the public. Ticket prices and sponsorships cover the operational costs of each event, while 100% of all donations go directly to the charity organizations. Doors open at 6:30pm with an audience dance lesson following at 6:45pm. Each evening’s show begins at 7:15pm. Cash bar.

Voting & Donations

With SwingShift providing the soundtrack, each couple dances to earn donation support from audience members and scoring from the audience and judges. Audience members can vote for their favorite couple with a minimum donation of $5 – however that is just a starting point! Donations can be designated to the charity represented by this couple or to any of the participating charities. An award for the highest judges score, and an award for the most audience votes is given out each event night.  All voting dollars from the four events will be combined to determine the season’s overall charity donation winner.
