The Pathfinder School
Mike Baker // Maria West

The Pathfinder School mission is to ensure each student builds a foundation of intellectual facility and self-assurance through immersion in vigorous learning environments that require creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, initiative, and responsibility.

Mike Baker - Star

Mike Baker has lived in the Traverse City area for more than 30 years. During that time, he’s been active in the community, serving on numerous charity boards. Mike has a strong belief in early childhood development and feels it’s the key to the long-term success of the next generation. Currently, Mike is raising three great kids - Jennie, Brendan and Mollie.

Maria West - Instructor

Maria received her BFA in Dance from Marymount Manhattan College then traveled the world as a professional dancer in numerous shows. She settled down in Traverse City, and has been on faculty at Dance Arts Academy for the past 7 years. She is proud to also have recently joined the faculty at The Pathfinder School, and currently teaches 3rd and 4th grade. This will be Maria's 3rd season with SwingShift and the Stars, and she is honored and excited to give back to the community again.

P.C.U.P.S. Foundation
Peter Marinoff // Dr. Jennifer Lyon

Prostate Cancer Understanding Prevention and Screenings mission is to ensure the quality of men’s everyday lifestyle and save lives. The P.C.U.P.S. Foundation continues to promote awareness through sport and recreation.

Peter Marinoff - Star

Peter Marinoff has lived in the Traverse Area since 1998. He is married to the wonderful Kristin Marinoff and they have two boys, Mackinley 15, and Pierson 12. He works for Munson Healthcare as the President of Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Jennifer Lyon - Instructor

Jennifer Lyon is originally from Traverse City. She attended San Francisco Ballet School and Ballet West Summer Programs while in high school and went on to attend Butler University as a dance major. Jennifer graduated from Michigan State College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2004. Currently, Jennifer works at Pure Health and teaches dance at Ballet Etc. She is married to her high school sweetheart Tim Lyon, They have 2 vibrant and creative children; Leland and Nola. Jennifer is excited to be involved with SwingShift and ready to get back to her dancing roots!

Spark in the Dark
Kris McCarver // Mel Kiogima

Spark in the Dark works to empower individuals and organizations in the community to help one another in times of need. We aim to build a stronger, more connected community through simple everyday acts of love and kindness.

Kris McCarver - Star

Kris McCarver is the General Manager for Northern Broadcast, and midday host on The Fox FM since 2010. She is honored to help bring more attention and awareness to a fantastic organization- Spark in the Dark, to help build a stronger community through acts of kindness and respect, and privileged to participate in SwingShift and the stars with such a wonderful group doing so much good!

Mel Kiogima - Instructor

Mel Kiogima has been happily married to his lovely and gracious wife Nancy for 39 years and are blessed with eight children and ten grandchildren. Mel and Nancy started dancing in the late 70’s and have taken many lessons, competed, and provide dance lessons through their business Night Moves Social Dance. Mel is a Senior Geologist with the State of Michigan, has been a Tribal Councilor for the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, and enjoys boating and dancing in his spare time. Mel is a returning instructor and is pleased to have this opportunity to help raise money for a worthy cause. He looks forward to a great, fun-filled season!

St. Max's Fellowship for Teens
Juliette Goodwin // Justin Koertgen

St. Max's Fellowship for Teens mission is to provide fun, safe, transformative mission trip experiences for teenagers who are searching for purpose and meaning in their lives.

Juliette Goodwin - Star

Juliette Goodwin is a proud mother of 4 boys and the proprietress of the downtown boutique and alteration studio, Posh. She is grateful for the support of her loving husband and honored to have been asked to represent St. Max’s for this fun event.

Justin Koertgen - Instructor

Justin Koertgen danced for the Dayton Ballet for twelve seasons. Justin attended the Interlochen Arts Academy from 1995-2000. Justin has taught all over the country and his choreography has been showcased at Interlochen Center for the Arts, Mercyhurst University, and The Dayton Ballet. Justin has also danced for Ballet Fleming, Charleston Ballet, Ballet Montana, and the Traverse City Dance Project. Justin is currently on faculty at the Interlochen Arts Academy.

Traverse City Figure Skating Club
Laurent Masse // Stephanie Miller

The Traverse City Figure Skating Clubs' mission is to provide skaters the opportunity to achieve whatever goals they may have, from learning skills they can use for a lifetime to being highly competitive, in a fun, healthy, positive atmosphere.

Laurent Masse - Star

Laurent Masse is a skating coach/director at the Traverse City Figure Skating Club. The skating club has been an outlet for him to share his excitement for the sport. He is honored to be a part of this great event for the club and all future skaters in Traverse City.

Stephanie Miller - Instructor

Stephanie Miller has been a Figure Skating Coach for the Traverse City Figure Skating Club since 2000. She is also a Costume Designer and Embellishments for Olympic and World Figure Skaters. Stephanie has volunteered for the Red Wing Training Camp for over 10 Years and currently resides in Kingsley, MI.

Addiction Treatment Services
Matt Zerilli // Jenny Rohlen

Addiction Treatment Services mission is to promote the overall health, wellness, and recovery of individuals impacted by substance use and behavioral health issues by meeting the treatment needs of our clients and community.

Matt Zerilli - Star

Matthew Zerilli works as a Care Coordinator at Addiction Treatment Services' Jail Alternative Program and a firm believer that a supportive community is essential to people in recovery. He also performs stand-up comedy around the Midwest and occasionally around the house dependent on the patience of his wife Jeanette, their two rescue dogs Sully and Monkey, and George the cat.

Jenny Rohlen - Instructor

Jenny Rohlen started ballet when she was 3 years old and has danced ever since. Jenny participated in Swing Shift and the Stars 5th Season with Homer Nye, who married Jenny and her husband, Brian, on Old Mission Peninsula. Jenny has 4 children ranging in ages from 15 years to 8 months old. She has a real estate career with Keller Williams Realty. Jenny is truly excited to be a part of this 10th Anniversary Season and cannot wait to help raise money for another amazing Charity.

Charlevoix Area Humane Society
Jerry Coyne // Judy Wojcik

Charlevoix Area Humane Society's mission is to practice and promote the principle that every life is precious. As such, we are committed to the highest principles of humane care and professional treatment of injured, ill, neglected or abused animals.

Jerry Coyne - Star

Jerry Coyne (JC from WQON) and his beautiful wife Sheryl own and operate Blarney Stone Broadcasting in Grayling where he can be heard weekdays from 10-3 as the host of JC’s Midday Mind trip. JC and Sheryl just celebrated their 20th anniversary and have a 16-year son Joe who attends St Mary’s in Gaylord. JC has two additional children Nick and Madeline. JC is excited to represent such a great organization like the Charlevoix Humane Society and promises not to completely embarrass himself.

Judy Wojcik - Instructor

Judy lives in the Petoskey area and is employed by McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital as a Childbirth Educator and Breastfeeding Counselor. Judy is President of Ballroom Dance of Northern Michigan and has been ballroom dancing the past 11 years. Judy is mom to 3 children and 4 grandchildren.

Easling Pool Community Campaign
Norman Lee // Sharon Pascoe

Easling Pool Community Campaign's mission is to renovate this well-loved and well-used facility so that citizens of all ages will be assured access to swim lessons, water fitness programs, lap swimming and family recreation in an up-to-date and fully-renovated facility.

Norman Lee - Star

Norman Lee is the father of three young mermaids who would start and end every day swimming if they could. He and his wife Amy enjoy being a part of this community and love the beautiful waters that surround it. He wants to ensure kids have a new and improved Civic Center pool where they can learn how to swim so our waters can be enjoyed SAFELY!

Sharon Pascoe - Instructor

Sharon Pascoe is an RN by training and has worked in case management for most of her career. She has been competing in Latin and ballroom dance for the past 4 years with her professional partner in Detroit. An "interesting idea" to take a dance class 10 years ago turned into a major passion. Other passions include spending time with her grand children, her dogs, volunteering for Silver Muzzle Cottage, ballet classes, paddle boarding in the bay and in Florida, gardening, reading, and just loving life!

Inland Seas Education Association
Marc Schollett // Angie Pierce

The mission of Inland Seas Education Association is to inspire Great Lakes curiosity, stewardship, and passion.

Marc Schollett - Star

Marc currently co-anchors 7&4 News at 5, 6, and 11 pm, but his background also includes environmental undertakings that tie to Inland Seas' goal of protecting the Great Lakes through education. His undergraduate degree is in biology from the University of Michigan and he received his Master's degree from Loyola University in Chicago in freshwater ecology with a specialty in algae. For several years, Schollett covered water issues in northern Michigan in a weekly segment titled "Water Watch" which earned him awards from the Sierra Club and the Society of Environmental Journalists.

Angie Pierce - Instructor

Specializing in Latin/hip-hop, Angie Pierce has been a dance instructor since 2005. It has evolved into her 2nd career. She says it is an honor to be able to exude her passion for dance not only with her 7 year old son (who now loves dancing more than she does) but for such a great cause as SwingShift and the Stars 2017!

Interlochen Public Library
Verta Odziana // Justin Koertgen

Interlochen Public Library's mission is to provide the information, resources, and services that our diverse and changing population needs in its lifelong search for intellectual, recreational, and vocational information and enrichment.

Verta Odziana - Star

Verta Odziana and her husband, Rudy, have three children that have given them six grandchildren and one great grandchild. They retired to the Interlochen area thirteen years ago. The library is the heart of the Interlochen Community. All the library programs are geared to enriching the lives of everyone who uses them. She is proud to be a part of this adventure and is thrilled to help focus attention on our Interlochen area and its great library.

Old Town Playhouse
Jill Anton // Rodney Woodring

The mission of the Old Town Playhouse is to be a principally volunteer-based organization promoting quality community theatre experiences for people of all ages in the Northwest Michigan region by providing educational opportunities and entertainment in the theatrical arts.

Jill Anton - Star

Jill Anton has called Northern Michigan her home since 1989. She and her family reside in Suttons Bay where they have a vineyard and hobby farm, which includes llamas and peacocks. Jill is part owner of Eleven - a boutique in downtown Traverse City. She has a passion for the arts and has been involved on and off the stage at the Old Town Playhouse for over 25 years. Jill is beyond excited to be a part of raising money and awareness for the OTP!

Rodney Woodring - Instructor

Rodney Woodring was involved with SwingShift and the Stars for the first 6 years, the first 2 years doing light design and stage managing. Afterwards, his wife Cheryl took over as stage manager and he hit the dance floor for the next 4 years! After his 6th year he decided to retire from dance but Judy Harrison found the one name that could get him back on the floor again and he is very happy to be involved with the 10th anniversary show and super excited to be back on stage again with Jill.

November 17th
Grand Traverse Pavilions - PACE
Evelyn Richardson // Richard Dodge

The mission of the Grand Traverse Pavilions is to provide accessible, trusted and compassionate care that enhances quality of life for aging adults. Efforts to bring the Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) to our region is just one way we are striving to improve care for our aging population.

Evelyn Richardson - Star

Evelyn is a Traverse City native. Evelyn is the third generation with ties to Grand Traverse Medical Care and the Pavilions. Evelyn’s nursing passion has been assisting older adults in maintaining their health and achieving their quality of life in their preferred setting, which is most often in their home. The PACE program will be such an asset to our Northwest Michigan region by providing a safe environment for the frail elderly to spend their day, as well as provide the needed respite for the caregivers.

Richard Dodge - Instructor

Richard began teaching in 1988 for Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Tacoma, WA. For more than 7 years, he worked full-time as a teacher, coach, and competitive dancer in franchised and independent studios. Dancing gave him the opportunity to travel all over the country. Richard currently resides in Frankfort with his wife Nici, and her 2 sons. He has participated in the several seasons of SwingShift; and is excited to be returning for another chance to give something back to the local community.

The Watershed Center
Richard Lewis // Holly Provenzano

The Watershed Center advocates for clean water in Grand Traverse Bay and acts to protect and preserve its watershed.

Richard Lewis - Star

Richard Lewis has been married to his wife Colleen for 38 1/2 years and they have five grown daughters and fifteen grandchildren. In Nov. 2013, Richard was elected to the Traverse City Commission for a four-year term. He looks forward to representing The Watershed Center in this year’s SwingShift and the Stars. The Watershed Center plays a vital role in Northern Michigan in working toward and assuring that the natural resource, our water, is kept pristine.

Holly Provenzano - Instructor

Holly Provenzano has been teaching dance for over 15 years and is a Traverse City native. She received her foundational training at The Dance Center, and CMU. She has done master classes and works with Momex Dance Company and Eisenhower Dance Ensemble. She loves to travel and is employed by Hagerty Insurance.

Michael's Place
Mel Jones // Ed Blackburn

Michael's Place provides support and advocacy for children, teens, and adults grieving the death of a loved one and educates the community on the impact of grief.

Mel Jones - Star

Mel Jones has three great kids, works at St. Francis high school, and teaches at Modus 45. She is honored and excited to be dancing for Michael's Place! She loves all that they do for grieving families and is thankful to SwingShift and the Stars for the opportunity to help this great organization!

Ed Blackburn - Instructor

Ed Blackburn has been dancing since he was in high school. He danced with SwingShift and the Stars when it was created and found himself as an instructor for season 3. He believes dance is a universal language and it is very much a part of his family!

PEACE Ranch
Colleen Wares // Mel Kiogima

The mission of PEACE Ranch is to provide Professional Equine Assisted Counseling and Education (PEACE) services for all in need regardless of ability to pay.

Colleen Wares - Star

Colleen Wares has been an employee of WTCM and Midwestern Broadcasting for over 37 years. She is a life-long dog lover and Golden Retriever mom, and now runs a successful dog-sitting business.
Colleen and her husband, Mac, have three grown children: Justin, Cait and Kevin. She feels strongly about, and believes in the good works of PEACE Ranch and is happy to participate in SwingShift and the Stars to support the cause.

Dana Boals // Kellen Blackburn

Single MOMM cultivates communities on a mission to ignite hope, healing, and confidence within single moms through story based awareness, mentorship, and guidance.

Dana Boals - Star

After 30 years of strategic business leadership roles and non-profit board membership, Dana Boals and her husband returned home and became business owners. They couldn't be happier! Representing Single MOMM in this event is a thrill. "Be the change that you wish to see in the world" - even if it means dancing in front of others!

Kellen Blackburn - Instructor

20-year-old Kellen Blackburn has danced for many years throughout school. He has studied with the Dance Center and with the NMC Dance. He’s been out of high school for two years, and is still dancing strong and has been in many musicals and dance performances! Currently, he is working with Habitat for Humanity and the Cherry Republic, satisfying his desire to help people! The main thing he is looking forward to this year in SwingShift is to see all charity's profit and see what new moves he can learn from all the talented stars and instructors, but know he won't go down without a fight!

Young Life
Al Pilong // Holly Collison

Young Life's mission is to introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ, and help them grow in their faith.

Al Pilong - Star

Al Pilong is the president, MMC and COO of Munson Healthcare. He has been married for 33 years to his lovely wife Lori and they have 3 grown children - Christopher 27, Lindsay 24, Cherith 18 and a faithful dog Bailey. He is looking forward to the opportunity to support the work of Young Life as they impact the lives of students in our area.

Holly Collison - Instructor

Holly Collison studied and competed as a dancer in southeast Michigan, and continued to study dance while attending Western Michigan University. She has remained passionate about dance over the years since that time. Holly and her husband have been Traverse City residents for over 13 years and are grateful to be raising their son in beautiful northern Michigan.

BrickWays Foundation
BB Brick // Danny Brizard

BrickWays mission is to enhance the lives of adults with disabilities by providing housing options, by adapting to their individual needs, and by maximizing their potential in ways that integrate their lives with the community around them.

BB Brick - Star

BB Brick is married to Terry Brick, youngest son of the Founder of BrickWays, Mary Jean Brick. They have three children, Tim -19, Peter -18 and Halee – 17. She is thrilled to be dancing for BrickWays to honor her late mother-in-law for her inspiration and vision.

Danny Brizard - Instructor

Danny graduated from Oak Park River Forest High School and enlisted to become a United States Marine. He was stationed at Camp Pendelton, CA. Travel and employment allowed Danny the opportunity to find and expand his love for dance by introducing him to many styles and cultures.
Danny currently is the Assistant Manager of the Parts and Apparel Dept. at Classic Motor Sports in Traverse City. Danny is married to Ashley. He also has two wonderful children, Jackson and Marielle.
Danny is excited to lace up his dancing shoes once again for a great cause!

Communities In Schools
Diana Milock // Richard Dodge

Communities In Schools of Northwest Michigan surrounds students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

Diana Milock - Star

Diana and her husband, Richard, have lived full-time in the Traverse City area for over 20 years. Her involvement in the non-profit world began as a founding member of Community in Schools many years ago. They have greatly expanded their programs and outreach, and have served the students and community of Mancelona very well in promoting healthy activity and supported learning activities. She looks forward to finding new and interesting ways to be of service to this community.

Richard Dodge - Instructor

Bill Marsh Jr. // Sharon Pascoe

Love In The Name of Christ's mission is to mobilize the Church to transform lives and communities In the Name of Christ.

Bill Marsh Jr. - Star

Bill Marsh Jr. is an active partner along with his two brothers in the Bill Marsh Automotive Group. He is also a blogger, public speaker, ministry leader, and father of three grown children. His wife, Debbie, and him have been married for 33 years. He is excited to participate in SwingShift because, he is a member of the original group of "Stars" a decade ago. He says SwingShift exemplifies the community-minded generosity that has come to define Traverse City.

Sharon Pascoe - Instructor

Special Olympics Michigan - Area 2
Wendy Nienhouse // Philip Leete

The mission of Special Olympics Michigan is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Wendy Nienhouse - Star

An active family in community, youth arts and athletics, Wendy Nienhouse and husband Todd raised daughters Olivia and Eva on Old Mission Peninsula. They also founded their business, Agevix Exercise Therapy, in Traverse City. Agevix is a health care provider for brain injury survivors and individuals recovering from joint repair or replacement surgery. Wendy regularly joins familiar voices on WTCM NewsTalk 580 AM where she’s part of the weekday morning broadcast team. In volunteer roles, Wendy assists church, community and youth efforts as well as advocacy of Michigan’s injured.

Philip Leete - Instructor

Philip has been a leader in the region's competitive robotics school programs and has opened Traverse City's first technology robotics center, Quarkmine Space, for the general public. Aside from robotics and family, Philip enjoys using his professional dance experience for this $1,000,000 Challenge season to showcase his charity and his partner.

Traverse City Athletic Boosters
Erin Lord // Kellen Blackburn

Traverse City Athletic Boosters connects community, school, and students together in order to enhance the educational athletic experience for all and developing Champions for Life in three critical areas: academic integrity, civic responsibility, and competitive spirit.

Erin Lord - Star

Erin Lord is the Head Cheer Coach at Traverse City West. Coaching over a decade, Erin is competitive by nature, has a passion for working with student athletes and leadership development. She is a proud Mom of her children; Neva and Boden. Erin is the office manager at Inforth Technologies

Kellen Blackburn - Instructor

Traverse Health Clinic’s Mission is to promote the health and wellness of our community residents with a special focus on the medically underserved by working as a team to provide primary care and support services.

Mary Bevans Gillett - Star

Mary Bevans Gillett has worked with nonprofits & community projects as a volunteer, consultant, staff & writer. She is co-convener of the Northwest Michigan Arts & Culture Network, administers MCACA’s minigrant program & is a frequent writer for the Traverse City Business News. In addition to supporting Traverse Health Clinic, Mary serves on the Traverse Bay Children’s Advocacy Center Board & Traverse City Arts Commission. She lives in Traverse City with her husband, Ward.
